Each registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a certain website hosting company. In this way, you have got both your site and your e-mails managed by the very same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you type a domain in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be sent to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the emails means you could have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting from our company, you are going to be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domains. So long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you will be able to modify specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to another company if you would like to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool will permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain at all. If you choose to use the email services of a different provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with just a few clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, allows you to view the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you total control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
